Pacing up and down the streets of orchard, doing CIP, which is similar to flag day, if not worse. It's either people are not interested in those straw flowers, but feel that those stickers were better or they have become more heartless over the years. Can't exactly blame them for that, these kind of CIP is becoming ridiculous, every Saturday there are bound to be people selling flags or whatsoever. If you didn't see them, count yourself lucky. Or maybe the NKF incident impact is here to stay.
Yes, of course there's still kind souls around who will step forward to donate without our "pestering". or rather, it's pity they had for us standing under the scorching hot sun, that they decided to help us.
Sometimes, I wonder if we students are tools for raising funds. Do they think that students are very free? I think most students are doing it merely for CIP hours. How meaningful can walking around asking for donations for organisations you don't really know can get?
Through these CIP, you get to see different kinds of people. People who shun you upon seeing you. People who smile and pretend not to hear you. People who think they are models walking down the street, ignoring you. and People who feel embarrassed and decided to donate some coins. If you think that the tourists and foreginers are the generous group, it's definitely a "NOno". I mean they are here to tour around? What makes you think they would want to donate money to a country they don't belong to. Locals are the most understanding.
A quote from an indian guy which keeps me pondering..."
You do not confront people like that".
After giving much thought, I think he's wrong. We were not confronting but asking, can't you differentiate that? I guess he didn't have the guts to tell us face to face. His wife was kind, planning to donate until her husband spoke at some loud volume, back facing us. Was he trying to embarrass us? My friend suggested it was probably a failed marriage. haha, maybe they are not even married. Now i feel that, we should 've confront that person and show him the true meaning of confrontation. What a mean guy.
Nevertheless, it was nice doing CIP with my friend, who allow me to gain insight into certain stuff. But this CIP will probably be my 1st and my last. =D and yes, i still believe there are single guys out there who are willing to donate and get those flowers.
